This Helmholtz-wide battery research project complements the Helmholtz-Initiative and focuses on reliability and integration of battery systems. Additionally to the Helmholtz-partners KIT, DLR and FZJ, the following universities contribute to the project: JLU Gießen, Universität Hamburg, TU Darmstadt, RWTH Aachen, WWU Münster, TUM.
The Portfolio project comprises
- system analysis including scenario development in order to identify innovation potentials and minimize innovation risks;
- development of novel methods for processing, structuring and assembling battery cells in order to improve reliability, safety and energy density;
- development of new diagnostic tools for predicting battery lifetime and other system parameters, battery management systems and battery systems optimized for use in plug-in hybrids.
